Solomia, the daughter of the famous founder of the Sofiivka park, was terribly disliked by her stepmother Sofia. Solomia fell in love in the park designer Captain Ludwig Metzel, a really talented, but cruel man. Stanislav Potocki did not know what to do with the 16-year-old girl and sent her away from Uman, to the family estate near Khashchuvato. However she often visited her father in Uman.
After his death, the stepmother did not want to see Solomia in the Sofiivka anymore. When her beloved Ludwig went abroad Solomia decided to get married. Although she was 30, she found her husband fast. He was the landlord of the nearby village Solhutove – Mr. Mashynskyy.
Maybe it's just a beautiful story. But one thing we know for sure – Solomia loved this water mill. This mill on the banks of the Bug was built in the 18th century. Since then, not once rebuilt. The mill is now running at times. However, it is no longer a water mill, as it is run by an electric motor. The building is very well preserved to this day.
